I'd start with changing your banner to have a gallery name, address and such. This will give your customers more of a gallery feel when they are at your site.

Use excerpts and entice viewers to go a page further in to get the whole story. Also, limit your front page to the most recent 5 or 10 posts and have your blog archive links higher up on the sidebar for those looking for older posts.
