Does size of picture files affect SEO?

I like to post my pictures full size on my blog so others can use them. Is this a mistake?

Load times affect your SEO ranking. So if it takes Googlebot (google's crawler) a long time to load an image they may penalize you in the same way they penalize you for a slow loading web page.
At the very least I'd recommend imbedding lightweight versions in your web page and linking to full size versions that load on their own.
